- Bike share program is BACK
Students can now register to borrow bikes from the Rec Center for an unlimited time, for free. This program had a lot of success last year so they've added some snazzy new bikes in anticipation for this year. It's a great way to get some exercise and get around town now that we finally have warm weather!
2. Annual Pizza Competition
Similar to our chowder cook off, every year the CIA holds a pizza cook off in which teams of students compete to see who can make the best pizza. Saputo cheeses sponsors the event and there are lots of fun activities and prizes in addition to ten different pizzas to try.
3. Construction update: Rec Center
The construction on the Rec Center has been well under way here for a while now. Although the finalized building is a two-year project, we are nearing the re-opening of the portion of the building that houses the cardio, weight lifting and dance rooms. These photos were taken mid-block around the end of April and will eventually be the new entrance to the building and side add-on of a fresh market!
4. Spring club and intramural sports tennis and softball are well under way. Games are typically on Sundays but can also be anytime during the week or weekend, so drop by the softball field and cheer for your favorite!
5. Leadership Awards in NYC
Every year the CIA honors four industry professionals in the categories of professionalism and innovation, heath and wellness, world cuisines and cultures and sustainability and food ethics in a big to-do ceremony in NYC. The event raises money for the student scholarship foundation and is supplemented by a silent auction and raffle. Students are nominated by faculty to serve as volunteers for the event. This year's honorees were Chef and restauranteur Jean-George Vongerichten, founder of Chobani yogurt Hamdi Ulukaya, Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto and CEO of Unilever Food Solutions Leo Oosterveer. (More to come on this event later!)
