Our lectures include topics like guest relations, hospitality, and styles of service. My favorite lectures are Wine, beer, coffee, and tea tastings!!
On Beer day we learned the basics of brewing, the differences of ales and lagers, and much more! We tasted the beer that is served in APBC- Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Brooklyn Pilsner, Saranac Adirondack Lager, Southhampton Burton IPA, Mother's Milk, and Hennepin.
Bakeshop 6 even provided us with freshly baked pretzels to pair with our beer!
Tea day was my favorite of the tastings. We tried over 20 different teas and it was so fascinating to learn how different cultures drink their tea. Caffeine content, tea processing, and growing locations were just a few topics of discussion. We tried many different white, green, black, oolong, tisane, and flavored teas.
Coffee day wasn't as enjoyable since I'm not a huge coffee fan, but it was neat to learn the differences between the two most common coffee beans, arabica and robusta. One being much higher in caffeine and the other brews richer higher quality coffee.
While we only scratched the surface of these very detailed subjects, I am so glad we learned the basics of coffee, tea, and beer. Now on to my last bakeshop class before restaurants, Restaurant Plated Desserts with Chef Todd Knaster!!
